Misfits Market: Hit or Miss?

Misfits Market: Hit or Miss?

Hey Brainiacs! We hope everything is going well with you!

Today, (well, really tonight.) I will be reviewing a grocery subscription service called Misfits Market!

If you haven’t heard of them, they describe themselves as “a subscription box of sometimes funny-looking, always delicious produce, designed to break the cycle of food waste.”

Basically, they are a fresh fruit and veggie subscription box. I found out about them during one of my usual day long Youtube video binges. Their ad escaped my relentless skip button by capturing my attention.

They claimed to be rescuing the less attractive fruits and veggies that cannot be sold to retail supermarkets but are still perfectly fine to consume. This way they can reduce food waste and continue to support small farmers and producers by purchasing this food.

This appealed to me for two reasons:

  1. Reniece and I have been on a very ineffective health kick for the last two years. I am currently looking for more ways to increase my access to fresh fruits and veggies that are sustainable in my personal life. (I am lazy af.)

  2. I sympathized with the ugly fruit not getting picked to be in the supermarket LMAO. It’s incredibly shallow and wasteful for the non traditional looking fruit not to bought because they are slightly imperfect.

Pricing

This may all sound nice to you, but I’m sure you’re asking me by now to get to the pricing.

Here’s the kicker!

It’s not expensive at all.

They have two box sizes: Mischief and Madness.

Mischief

  • Price: $22

  • Feeds 1-2 people

  • Anywhere from 10 - 13 pounds of produce.

Madness

  • Price: $35

  • Feeds 3-4 people

  • Anywhere from 18 - 22 pounds of produce

In my opinion, that is extremely affordable to have access to fresh produce delivered directly to your house. You can also control the frequency of delivery, it can be every week or every other week. The produce selection changes every month depending on what's in season. You can also add non-produce add-ons at discounted prices,  for example, I added cashews, strawberries, and almond butter powder.

For me, I chose every other week for now but I can change the frequency at any time. You can also cancel or pause your subscription penalty free at any time.

Below is a gallery of photos of what the box and the contents looked like.

Conclusion: Do I think Misfits Market is worth investing in?

Yes, if you are a person that enjoys the convenience of not having to trudge your way to your local supermarket, especially during a pandemic. This is a safer and cheaper option to have fresh fruits delivered.

Or if you’re a busy person, who really wants to improve their diet but doesn’t have the time to dedicate to constant grocery shopping.

However, Misfits Market is not for everyone. If you’re a picky eater, then I suggest that you march yourself in your local farmer’s market and support that way.

I can appreciate a company that fills a need and is able to tackle a problem all at the same time.
