Tuesday, June 18th

Today I had a bad day. Not a “caught in the rain without an umbrella” kinda bad day. I had a bad mental health day. The previous night I could not sleep and I could feel the onset of emotional and mental stress that is a hallmark symptom of my anxiety.

A therapist once told me that I have functioning anxiety which basically means that I can feel like my whole world is crashing down on me and still be able to do my homework or be there for friends. At first glance, it seems like it is a superpower to surmount these feelings that threaten to hinder my physical progress. But in reality, I am just on autopilot and blissfully ignoring most of my problems. But that’s another post for another day.

I had three goals for today. Go to class, go to the gym, and study for my final exam.

The first goal is easy enough. I just have to get dressed and sit there. The third goal is a little more challenging but if I set up shop in the library then I can push through because I’m not cooped up in my room. The second goal… not so much lol.

Am I really willing to go to the gym? A place that induces even more anxiety? And the answer is yes! I have to remind myself that I am allowed to go to the gym.

I do not have to look a certain way or be a certain person to be allowed to go to the gym.

It’s difficult but its a mantra I must repeat to become comfortable with the environment.

There have been many benefits of us participating in this challenge and pushing ourselves.

Thursday, June 27th

Ya'll I worked out twice last week and once this week. Not excuses but I had a 20 page term paper to write, and a final exam to take. I did find time to do other Hot Girl Activities, so I just dropped the ball this week. In terms of nutrition, half of me was practically living a Vegan lifestyle but the other half of me was tryna slide in Chick Fil A's DMs.

But I will do better... after my vacation. I am off to Jamaica for a family reunion and the most rigorous exercise I will be participating in will be a couple of laps in the pool. I will also be drinking many liquid calories. I will do damage control when I return home. Wish me luck!

Goals For The Upcoming Week When I Return

  • Stick to my four day a week gym schedule

  • Go to the farmers market to get actual food and not live off of Scooby Snacks

Wednesday, June 19th

I did a short session in the gym today. It mostly consisted of cardio but I had to cut it short due to a friend visiting from out of town. My body is getting adjusted to exercising again. I am no longer sore after every workout and I am now starting to feel a difference in every day activities like walking across campus or taking multiple flights of stairs.

I am proud of myself because I don't really like working out in the day but not only did I work out in the middle of the day but also by myself :).

Saturday, June 22nd

It is hard for me to be committed right now. I just feel so exhausted and drained between work and classes. I feel my mental energy draining and these class assignments are not helping. I did take a ten minute walk and even though it was not the 30 minute home work-out I committed to, I am glad I pushed myself to do it.

Friday, June 28th

I will be working out today after my class and even though I am exhausted, I am going to push myself because I was SLACKING last week. I definitely want to do better than I did last week because I barely passed 1 workout.

Goals for the Upcoming Week

  • Eat three meals a day

  • Drink at least five bottles of water per day

  • Workout at least three times a week
