Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness- A Brainiac Review
Welcome back, Brainiacs. Today we will be discussing the Netflix Documentary, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness. The documentary is based on self proclaimed tiger king, Joe Maldonado-Passage AKA Joe Exotic. The show examines how he went from a Big Cat zoo to conspiracy to commit murder. This series has everything from throuples, politicians, Crazy cat lady and a possible sex cult.
To be completely honest guys, we don’t even know where to start. This series was filled with so many twists and turns but by the end you will just be appalled by how evil some of these people are. The most important thing is that there are only 4000 tigers in the wild while there is an estimated 5000-7000 in captivity.
Anyways, the best place to start would be with Joe who is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence. Two of his 19 total charges involve murder for hire for another antagonist in the series, Carole Baskin. Joe is completely obsessed with being famous. He even ran for president of the United States in 2016. When he realized he couldn’t win, he then ran for governor. Any type of attention is good attention to him even if he is the butt of the joke.
Additionally to Joe’s other questionable qualities, he also likes to marry young, vulnerable, heterosexual men. He allegedly kept these men around by providing them with whatever their hearts desired. This include ATV vehicles and a lot of drugs. Unfortunately, drugs wasn’t enough for one of his husbands who later killed himself.
Even though Joe is not the best person, we are not entirely sold that he really hired Allen Gordon to kill Carole Baskin. We are sure he has joked about her dying but we doubt that he really planned out the steps to execute her. Jeff Lowe definitely set him up along with the other FBI informant. He does deserve to be in prison though for the other 17 charges against animals because he definitely did that shit.
Recently, a video of Joe has also surfaced where he is discussing the fact that he feels like white people should be allowed to use the N word. We, personally, do not understand why people were upset by this. He introduces himself as a gay, gun-toting, redneck. Of course, he wants to say the N-word. We would be more surprised if he wasn’t racist at this point.
Moving on to Joe’s worst enemy, Carole Baskin is the CRAZIEST cat lady we have ever seen. She is the founder of a big cat rescue foundation in Florida. The most ironic thing about the entire series is that she claims to ‘rescue’ big cats but leaves them in cages just like Joe, the man she dedicated years to taking down. Additionally, if she cared so much about Joe’s 200+ tigers and lions then when she won the lawsuit against Joe, why did she not go for the animals. She instead bankrupted him which lead to the animals living in worse conditions and Joe later having to resort to breeding the animals.
Reniece completely believes she killed her past husband, millionaire Don Lewis.
She states in the series that that the only way tigers will eat things is to cover it in sardine oil. If that is not unsettling enough, in the months before his disappearance Don Lewis filed a restraining order against his wife. There have been numerous claims that their marriage was in shambles with multiple motives of why she would kill her husband.
She even went the extra mile to change his will and the preparer of his will to say ‘in case of my disappearance.’ Who writes that in their will? Typically people say in the event of my death. No one plans for their disappearance. Even if you don’t believe she killed him, there is something very off about her. The most popular claim is that she grinded her ex-husbands body through an industrial grinder and fed it to the tigers.
Overall, the majority of the cast needs to be in prison. Most of them are super shady and extremely manipulative. I wish the best of luck to the employees and the survivors but hopefully they all learn from Joe’s mistakes.
If we did not watch this documentary, we would not have believed this stuff at all. Most of the cast of the show are evil and ignorant in our opinions and all we can do is pray for them at this point and hope they don’t hurt anyone else. Due to all the success of the documentary, Netflix has announced that there will be new episodes premiering in April 2020.
