The Remix: That One Time I Fainted at a Party
Welcome Brainiacs to another edition of The Remix. I apologize for the wait for another segment but life has gotten busy. Anyways on to the story.
***THIS STORY CONTAINS ALIASES***
I was ending my junior year at college. It was mid-July and if you are on the party scene in Orlando then you know that means it is time for Jouvert. If you don’t know what Jouvert is, it is a Caribbean carnival party that includes paint, powder and lots of soca. Jouvert was the one party a year that I actually looked forward to because it never disappointed. To be surrounded by Caribbean people with Caribbean food and music only is a freeing experience because they understand the culture.
During this particular summer I was working a new job that was very demanding and inflexible. I had worked the previous night before the party so I was already exhausted. The day of the party my delusional self decided to make some extra money and do someone’s hair. So at 9 in the morning I was doing someone’s rope twists until around 3 o’clock.
Now if you know me , you know I hate to eat while I am working because I think it will slow me down. I was also not drinking water effectively. Throughout the entire hair session I think I drank one bottle of water the entire day. 🤷♀️
After doing hair, I was trying to be smart so that for once I could drink as much as I wanted to without hesitation. I knew I had to eat but it needed to be something with bread and oil to help with the liquor. I also needed to sleep and pregame with my friends but there was just not enough time in the world to fit everything in so I had to prioritize.
The party wasn’t ending until 4 in the morning and I knew I would not make it that far, so the first thing I did was take an hour nap because the food was gonna have to wait. I was ready to go to bed and it wasn’t even 6 yet.
By the time I got out of bed, it was basically 7 o’clock and our pregame started at 9 so I had very little time to spare. I got ready and decide to get some Wendy’s before heading to my friends. Within those two hours of 7 and 9, I chugged 2 bottles of water and was praying for the best.
I had been looking forward to this party since last July and I was NOT going to let anything stop me from going and enjoying myself. So at the pregame only 4 of us are drinking and the liquor of choice was pineapple Ciroc and Hynotiq.
Now needless to say my body was not ready for this liquor after the past two days I had. I drank about 2 cups of Hynotiq and 2 shots of Ciroc before we left the apartment. On the way to the party I realized my reaction times were becoming slower and my body was heating up but that’s normal for me ,if I have been drinking more than my typical amount of liquor. Typically before a party I do not drink more than 2 shots because I am typically the designated driver. I am also not a drinker so there’s that.
So we get to the party around 10:30. Even though it started at 10, the party was almost empty which is expected because these party goers run on Caribbean people time. This meant the party was not really gonna start until at least 11.
We get into the party and I realize that I am just not feeling good even though I am still joking around and dancing with my friends. My body feels like it is still heating up even though I am outside in the cool air. My legs start going weak and it takes everything in my body to reach out to my friend Kaitlin and whisper that I am going to faint. She thinks I am joking and does not realize that I am being serious until I am halfway to the ground. She moves to catch me and thankful my head did not hit the ground. I am going in and out of consciousness and I hear them calling my name but I am too weak to move.
Believe it or not, the first thing that went through my mind was that my hair, my CLEAN natural hair was touching this dirty dirt floor. I was UPSET and I finally came through to hear them say they got me a water. I swallowed that water down in ZERO POINT ONE seconds and i instantly felt better.
By this time It is almost 11 and more people are starting to come. I was sitting on the outskirts of the party because most policies are that once you leave you cannot come back into the event.
I paid almost $20 for this party and I was not leaving. I do not know why I am this stubborn. Anyways, I finally decided that I was finally better and could actually enjoy the party. i entered the thick of the crowd to find my friends who I told to go enjoy themselves. I found them and began to enjoy myself. I was a hype man and a dance hall queen but after 30 minutes the party was packed and way too hot.
I told my friends I could not be in the crowd and I slowly tried to get myself to my safe haven on the outskirts of the party with Kaitlin and Sandra. Before I know it, black spots begin to appear in my eyes and down I go again like a sac of potatoes in the middle of the party. I am coming back to consciousness and Kaitlin is ready to fight some girl who could not even bother stop throwing ass so Kaitlin and Sandra could pick me up.
She’s screaming for them to move and there’s people videoing other people dancing. meanwhile I am just on the floor trying to breathe. Kaitlin and Sandra find the strength tho pick me up and help me out of the crowd and finally there is air in my lungs again.
I decided to end my stubbornness and go back to the car because I did not want to faint again. Sandra decided to come and stay with me. Tara, the designated driver, thankfully had peanut butter crackers and water in her car. I ate and then took the best 2 hour nap of my life in that back seat.
I can honestly say I am glad I had that experience because I am now completely sure that the friends I keep would never leave me in a dangerous situation. Looking back on this experience, it is one of the funniest things I have ever done in my life.
The moral of the story Brainiacs is just to be safe when you are going out and to keep people around you that will have your best interest at heart. Also make sure to hydrate and eat properly before consuming alcohol.
